Puerto Vallarta was named Jalisco Cultural Heritage, recognizing its historical and cultural richness. Our city stands out for its natural attractions, combining the Pacific Ocean’s impetuous and the mountains’ wonders.

On the other hand, our state of Jalisco is known for its cuisine, history, and creativity. Puerto Vallarta, known as the “friendliest city in the world”, is home to cultural icons that represent our state with pride, such as tequila, charro, and mariachi.

Tequila

Tequila is a famous drink made from the blue agave plant. Is one of Jalisco’s most iconic and delicious beverages. It comes in rested, aged, or white varieties, each with its unique and exquisite flavor. Its delicious flavor has crossed borders and conquered even the most demanding palates in the world.

In Puerto Vallarta, you can go on tours to tequila distilleries and specialized shops. In these stores, you can taste and purchase your favorite tequila.

Charrería

The great charra culture is also deeply rooted in Puerto Vallarta and the region. Charrería is considered the national sport par excellence. It also has been inscribed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This is due to its deep roots in the values and history of Mexico.

Colorful contingents of charros of all ages can be seen in commemorative parades that take place along the Malecón of Puerto Vallarta and through the main streets of the city center.

The Center of Puerto Vallarta as a Cultural Heritage of Jalisco

Puerto Vallarta’s historic center was declared Cultural Heritage of Jalisco in 2018, which means that traditional buildings and monuments located in the center, such as the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Plaza de Armas, must preserve their image and essential characteristics.

Fiestas guadalupanas, the soul of Puerto Vallarta

The Guadalupanas Fiestas of Puerto Vallarta were declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Jalisco in 2018 for “materializing the collective identity of the municipality” and for being an annual holiday that has been passed down through generations.

The pilgrimages in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe gather thousands of faithful during the first 12 days of December who take to the streets of Puerto Vallarta. With this, our people demonstrate their faith and thank the favors received during the year.

Puerto Vallarta as Cultural Heritage

Thanks to its natural, cultural, historical, and gastronomic attractions, Puerto Vallarta is one of the most important beach destinations in Mexico and the world. Tequila, mariachi, and charra culture are symbols that give Puerto Vallarta its unique identity.
