Sergio Bustamante is recognized as one of the most prominent surrealistic artists in Mexico. His sculptures and jewelry collections are sent from his main gallery in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, to buyers all over the world.

Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Bustamante was raised by his grandfather, José Chong, a Chinese immigrant who became his inspiration. From a young age, he showed his love for painting and architecture, holding his first public exhibition at the age of 17. After a brief period in Amsterdam perfecting his art, he returned to Mexico to establish his career as an artist.

Bronze sculpture is the medium for which Sergio Bustamante is known. His most famous work, “In Search of Reason,” is located on the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta, an iconic seaside promenade. This sculpture, unveiled in 1999, depicts two children climbing a ladder while their mother pleads with them to come down safely. Standing at approximately 18 meters tall, visitors can climb it and take photos, making it one of the most photographed sculptures on the Malecón.

Bustamante has mentioned that this sculpture is inspired by “freedom,” however, as with all his works, interpretation is left to the viewer’s imagination.
