Visiting Puerto Vallarta during September offers a unique cultural and culinary experience. September 16th marks Mexican Independence Day, and one of the traditional dishes celebrated during this time is Chiles en Nogada.

Chiles en Nogada is a popular dish in September because its colors – red, white, and green – represent the Mexican flag, and the Poblano peppers are in season. This iconic dish is said to have originated from a recipe created by 19th-century Catholic nuns in San Andrés Calpan, Puebla, Mexico.

So, what exactly is Chiles en Nogada? It consists of a roasted Poblano pepper filled with a mixture of minced meat, dried fruits, almonds, and spices. The pepper is then covered in a rich and creamy white walnut sauce, known as Nogada, and garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley. Not only is it a delight for the taste buds, but also a feast for the eyes.

During September, many restaurants in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta serve Chiles en Nogada. Your Pinnacle Resorts concierge can assist with restaurant reservations or provide to-go/delivery options. Alternatively, you can try making this traditional dish in the fully equipped kitchen of your suite.
