Celebrating Mexican Independence in Puerto Vallarta

May 2, 2023

Although May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, is often confused with Mexico’s Independence Day, the true date is September 16th. Puerto Vallarta always celebrates a city-wide celebration for Mexico’s Independence Day over a three-day weekend in mid-month. The luxury vacation rentals at Pinnacle Resorts in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta are the perfect place to stay within walking distance of most events happening as the city celebrates Mexico. Here are some highlights to add to your vacation itinerary in Puerto Vallarta.

Saturday, September 14th

Charro Exhibition on the Puerto Vallarta Malecón

The famous Malecón is within walking distance of our luxury suites in downtown Puerto Vallarta, and the traditional cowboy culture (charro) is a big part of pride in Mexico. 100 beautifully dressed charros in traditional costumes will ride down the Malecón on their adorned horses in a parade starting at 10 a.m. Later that day, at 6 p.m., there will also be a live horse dancing performance on the Malecón.

Sunday, September 15th

Viva Mexico Street Party

The main event of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations in Puerto Vallarta, the crowd will gather at Plaza de las Armas for a street party with food stalls, live music, dancing, and the traditional “grito” ceremony as the crowd cheers “Viva Mexico”, followed by fireworks at 11 p.m.

Monday, September 16th

Taco Fair in the park

A national holiday, everyone will be at Lázaro Cárdenas Park, right in the neighborhood of the Romantic Zone of Pinnacle Resorts, for the Taco Fair with taco restaurants from all over the city competing to see who can present the most delicious tacos to the hungry crowd, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Talk to your Pinnacle Resorts Concierge for more information on these and other ways to celebrate Mexico’s Independence in Puerto Vallarta this September.
