The owners of the successful Tre Piatti restaurant have recently opened a delicious new venture with Don Chava Taqueria Cantina, putting a modern twist on traditional tacos. With a vibrant space in the heart of Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town, Don Chava has quickly become a favorite for casual dining with locals and visitors.
The cozy restaurant features two colorful wall murals depicting traditional Mexico, tables made from local wood by Vallarta furniture-makers, and big screen televisions for screening international sports events. The center of the restaurant is dominated by a custom-made bar and cook station, where Don Chava chefs whip up juicy tacos pastor (rotisserie pork), asada (rib eye), chuleta (pork chop) and milanesa de pollo (breaded chicken). In addition to tacos, Don Chava also has quesadillas and volcans, a cheesier version of tacos. House-made salsas and guacamole perfectly compliment your meal, as does the delicious chocolate flan, made in-house daily.
Nothing pairs better with tacos than Tequila, and Don Chava has a drink list of custom-crafted margaritas made with Tequila or Mezcal, along with a selection of Mexican beer and wine. Or enjoy one of their aguas frescas (fruit waters) made from fresh, local ingredients.
Don Chava is open Wednesday to Monday, from 5:30pm to 1:30am, located at Lazaro Cardenas 288 in Colonia Emiliano Zapata, and is one of our Pinnacle Picks for a fun take on traditional Mexican street food in Puerto Vallarta.
